Risk and Reward

Looks like bass for 'Greater Sadness' is complete.  Last night we started concepting bass for 'Deep Calling' and are really diving into some unique sounds for bass.  We are trying to avoid sounding like just another rock band.  There's so much more to the music than distorted guitars, driving bass and smashing a cymbal.  The only way this will be a great record is if we get out of the 'rock-rut' and do something different.  We can't be afraid to venture into other styles of music and sound to find what is right for the record.  However, we're not trying to be different just for the sake of being different.  It's more like searching for your own unique signature sound.  There is a fine line between the two.  A lot of the time we try a bunch of different things that may not seem right or even sound right at first, but in the context of the song it sounds perfect.  It's all about taking those risks and not being scared of what someone will say.  If you do something different and crazy and do it right then no one will question it.
